He was a forerunner. He translated Dr Hamilton work “ Purges Utility”
and provides it with some critical annotations well accepted at
his time, because he demonstrated to be a deep connoisseur of practical
medicine and he showed his sagacious talent.
He studied in Rome and in Naples clinical medicines, and printed
a memoir “ On the Black Pepper in the intermittent fever”, but,
in spite of his assertions, nobody wanted to adopt the new drug.
He refuted Brussais system in the work “Medical Thoughts on the
illness in general and specially about the fevers”, it had a great
success. Other publications are “About the ways to prevent or to
reduce the illnesses produced by the marshes”. “ Damone and Pitia”.The
drama “ St. Alfio, Cirino and Filadelfo’ life”. “ Reports of the
activities of the Economic Society”.
Member in various Academies, he had the chair of the Clinical
Medicine at the University in Catania. He was born on 5 of February
1779 and died on 20 of January 1857.
