He was born on January 16 1869, died in Rome on March 1938. After finishing his studies at the Universities in Naples and Rome, he took a degree in medicine at the University in Rome in 1894. He was student and favourite collaborator of the famous clinical Professor A. D’Antona, manager of the Pathology Institute and Propaedeutics Surgical Clinic at the University in Naples, where he worked as assistant for many years.

He published a treatise on the ‘ General Anaesthesia by chloroform and ether’ where he launched an attack against the supposed innocuousness of the chloroform in comparison with the ether in the general anaesthesia (a much-discussed question in the field of surgery in that day), that established the removal of that dangerous anaesthetic, that was generally used everywhere in the operating theatre. In relation to the same topic he published another work on “ Albumineria from Chloroform “

He went back to Sicily, where he continued his work and actively dabbled in politics, promoting the economic and social development of the region. The local political authorities looked at him with great suspicion. He had to pass an examination in English to be able to help as a doctor the Italians and took a first class degree with full marks in the state of Massachusetts. Going back to Sicily at the beginning of the world war he dedicated himself to help the soldiers ‘ families. He was a courageous supporter of the Sicilian beauty and generosity and of the cleverness of his men.

He was Mayor of Trecastagni and Chairman of the Trecastagni – Cicirello Etna Road Society, whose aim was to increase the value of the agricultural and tourist possibilities of the Etnean region.

In the last years he dedicated himself to the agriculture, especially to the problem of the vine-grower. One of his works about the vine-grower crises and the concrete remedies to achieve a solution was considered of great interest from the Sen. Marescalchi ex Undersecretary of State in the department of Agriculture and Forests. He was conferred of the Commenda of the Corona d’Italia
